Co-Parenting Celebs!

With all the split-ups and divorces we see splashed as breaking news across our televisions stations and while most exes in Hollywood cant seem to stop attacking one another, it is so nice to hear when those who can actually put aside all the glitz, glamour and definitely drama to dedicate themselves to effective co-parenting.  Earlier this year we posted about the divorce between Peter Facinelli and Jenny Garth (insert sad face here as I was completely bummed about this divorce) but it is so nice to see that they are making it a point to co-parent without all the drama.

According to Yahoo.com’s OMG site today, that even though their split is still pretty recent, they both were on the sidelines at their 6-year old daughter Fiona’s soccer game over the weekend in Los Angeles and made time to talk to one another.  Facinelli told People Magazine earlier this year that “co-parenting takes two great parents to put their differences aside and focus on the children and that’s what I’ve been doing.“  Garth also made mention that even though the she and Peter are no longer together, “they are great parents together.”

According to OMG, surprisingly, they weren’t the only celeb exes spotted hanging on the sidelines of a soccer field! Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe, whose divorce was finalized in 2008, watched their 9-year-old son Deacon dribble his heart out at his game in Brentwood over the weekend. While Witherspoon, 36, once called her divorce “very traumatic,” there’s obviously been a lot of water under the bridge since then. Perhaps helping bring the exes together is Witherspoon’s new husband, talent agent Jim Toth, who appeared to get along well with Phillippe, 38, greeting him right away with a handshake. Phillippe stood next to Toth throughout the game with the whole group smiling, laughing, and clearly able to put the past behind them.

Peace & Blessings,
Diane

Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes Call It Quits!

Unfortunately, one of our favorite Hollywood couples is divorcing.  People magazine reported that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are divorcing after five years of marriage.  According to the actress’ attorney Jonathan Wolfe, “This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”  Soon after Holmes’ announcement, Cruise released his own statement on the split. “Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children,” his rep told People. “Please allow them their privacy to work this out.”  Holmes filed in New York on Thursday, and according to TMZ, she is seeking sole custody and “primary residency custody” of Suri, 6, as well as a “suitable amount” of child support.   This is unfortunate news as the Cruise family was one of Today’s Modern Families favorite Hollywood blended families.  It seems Hollywood as of late has had an unfair share of divorces.  Being in an everyday (re)marriage is tough and takes work, I can only image that adding all of the pressures of Hollywood makes it even harder.  We wish the Cruise family well.

People Magazine Names Sandra Bullock Woman of the Year

bullockpeopleModern Momma, actress, and Oscar winner, Sandra Bullock is not only on a recent cover of People Magazine, but they also named her Woman of the Year!

2010 was a trying time for Sandra Bullock, because she discovered her ex-husband, Jesse James, was cheating on her. However, her Oscar win for her performance in the hit movie, The Blind Slide, and the adoption of her adorable son, Louis, also gave her something to celebrate.  A source close to Sandra said that bad things happen, but the great thing about Sandra is that she celebrates the good things and Louis is definitely a celebration of good things.

The fact that Bullock handled her tumultulous and very public divorce from James with integrity, grace and optimism AND the challenge of single motherhood, yet still focused on the good things is certainly one of the reasons she was named Woman of the Year.

Way to go Sandra! We hope 2011 is even better!
